Rules of the Road

Bella is officially off training wheels. She went out with Daddy Friday night to ride, and by Saturday, she was zooming around like a real pro. She learned to tackle the driveway (which is a slight incline) by Sunday. It is so refreshing to see her out there riding. Now if we can only teach her how to use the brakes, so she stops crashing into the curb to stop...

Lily has surprised us with her own little version of Fear Factor. As previously blogged, the child has always been scared. Apparently, the fear reserves itself to only animals and other malicious creatures (like talking stuffed animals). We got a taste of her wild side watching her master the big wheel. In the video clip below, she is up to something. I am completely unaware, having just got outside to photograph Bella riding. Much to my dismay, the following ensues:

"Evel Knievel: Part 1"
(Disclaimer: No children were hurt in the making of this video!)

It does look like one of those videos that should appear on the X-treme video shows you see on TV, but she really did walk away unscathed. Nevertheless, the next night, unbeknown to us, she was in the garage preparing to ride her bike and pretty soon, here she comes, barrelling down the driveway at top speed, between the parked truck and car, both feet up in the air and chubby hands gripping the handle bars, with this "Oh, no...what have I gotten into" look on her face. I turned around just in time to catch her and her bike before total and utter destruction occurred on the road. Immediately after that, I looked at her and said, "It's helmet time." She followed me back into the garage to get geared up for the X-treme big wheel road challenge. I've never known a two-year-old to need a helmet, elbow and knee pads, to ride a big wheel...
